about

This track is also available on Aaron's 'Whiplash Tongues' EP aaronmcmullan.bandcamp.com/album/the-whiplash-tongues-ep

the backing track came to me in a dream, as a singer (halfway between mira calix and hanin elias) performed their new single in front of a large crowd (based on the 'this is our punk rock' night i'd recently been to). i woke up and programmed what i remembered of the song, but rather than the cheesy female vocal in my dream, i realised it would make a perfect start for the remix of this song i wanted to do.

This isn't a remix; i was originally working from the vocal track, but rather than go through the torment of time-stretching it to fit the beats, i just got aaron to come round and sing a few takes of the vocal over the top, which was a terrifying experience to watch as he clutched at his arms while singing. so what i mean is, there is nothing of the original release in this take on the song (except a couple of samples of vocal snippets, e.g. "let's go dancing"). the production is strangely slower than the original song, which caused some phrasing problems i think, and the takes aren't ideal, or mixed very well, but as aaron says, at least it's in the right place. i wish i'd scrapped the right-channel guitar as well (the strumming one) as it doesn't work as well as the tighter one. but overall i'm very happy with how this went.
